Language Courses

German language courses for international students at the MLU Language Centre

Before and during their stay in Halle, our international students have the opportunity to improve their German language skills. You can participate at German courses at the University Language Centre of MLU.

Intensive courses in March 2025

Study Related German Language Courses in the summer semester 2025

The Language Center of MLU offers free German courses for students and employees of MLU on the level A1 to C2, as well as in phonetics. ECTS points are awarded for all courses (exception: phonetics). All ECTS courses end with an exam.

The German courses for international students and employees will start at the Language Center from April 7, 2025 (end of course: July 11, 2025)

Registration for the courses takes place from 10.03. to 29.03.2025 via online registration via: Contactus - German Language Courses. If you have any problems with the form, please contact or

After March 29, 2025, it is no longer possible to register for German courses.

All new students who have not yet completed a German course at the MLU Language Center, please take a placement test on Tuesday, 01.04.2025, 14:00 at the MLU Examination Center, Mansfelder Str. 15 (“Saline” tram station). Please arrive on time and bring your Stud.IP data with you! This test is mandatory for all new students.

The final assignment to the German courses is made by the lecturers in the first week of the course.

Please note that our courses are limited to a maximum of 16 participants. At the Language Center, we can only accept enrolled students and employees of the Martin Luther University Halle in our courses.

The courses with 10 ECTS are prioritized for program students (Business Economics).

Language Tandem Project of the MLU Language Center

Since December 2020, the MLU Language Center has been offering a new Language Tandem Project for MLU students: https://www.sprachenzentrum.uni-halle.de/2334618_3355387/

Students who are interested in a language tandem can contact the MLU Language Center via e-mail at: , indicating the language they would like to practice and deepen in tandem with a native speaker.


German Language Courses at the Institute for German Language and Culture at MLU

Additionally, offers the "Institut für deutsche Sprache und Kultur" (IDSK) possibility to learn German in intensive German courses, which are subject to a fee and take place either in person or online.

Writing Workshop

The "Schreibwerkstatt" is offered for students by students of German studies. For any kind of support with your seminar papers, contact or join the course on studIP here.

The consultation hours usually take place on Mondays 14-17pm.
