DAAD Prize for Outstanding Achievements of Foreign
Students and Doctoral Students
Studying at German Universities

In 2024, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) will award a prize to a foreign student or doctoral student at Martin-Luther Universität Halle-Wittenberg. The DAAD Prize is intended to honour outstanding academic achievements and remarkable social or intercultural commitment.

In winter semester 2024/25, applicants should be at least in the 2nd academic year of an undergraduate degree programme or at least in the 3rd semester of a graduate degree programme. The award can also be given to students who have already completed their studies  (in April 2024 at the earliest).

The prize is endowed with a total of 1.000 EUR and awarded to one person only. Application is open to degree seeking foreign students enrolled at Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. (Only international students who have acquired their university entrance qualification at a school abroad (this includes German schools abroad) or who have supplemented school qualifications acquired abroad with a German Studienkolleg are eligible to apply for the prize.)

Applications for the DAAD Prize need to be submitted by university lecturers or students/doctoral candidates themselves to the following address by July 28, 2024:

Please hand in the following documents:

  • convincing cover letter
  • tabular Curriculum Vitae
  • current academic transcript of records indicating the applicant’s grade point average or proof of academic achievements
  • Letter of reference from a university teacher (with assessment of academic performance  and social/intercultural commitment)
  • if applicable, proof of social/intercultural commitment

Degree-scholarships for international doctoral candidates

The International Office of Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg is awarding scholarships in the winter semester 2024 (funding period September 2024 to January 2025), financed by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
The scholarships are aimed at qualified international doctoral candidates to provide them with financial support during the final phase of the thesis.
The scholarship of 300€ is awarded for a period of up to 5 months.

Application deadline: 12th July 2024 | 4 p.m.

Award criteria:

Enrollment at the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg

Proven temporal proximity of the degree

Residence in Germany during the doctorate finalization phase

Good academic performance (publications, prizes, grades if applicable)

Selection criteria:

Only complete applications submitted on time can be considered.
Scholarship holders are selected by a committee consisting of members of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Studentenwerk Halle on the basis of the submitted application documents.
The number of scholarships to be awarded is limited. There is no legal entitlement to funding.

Scholarships for particularly committed doctoral candidates

The International Office of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg is awarding scholarships in the winter semester 2024 (funding period September 2024 to January 2025), financed by the DAAD with funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
The scholarships are aimed at international doctoral candidates at MLU Halle-Wittenberg who are characterized by special commitment in an international context in connection with MLU. The scholarships are intended to honor outstanding commitment, contribute to its preservation and motivate further commitment.
The scholarship of 300 € is awarded for a period of up to 5 months.

Application deadline: 8th July 2024 | 4 p.m.

Enrollment for a degree program at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg

Residence in Germany during the scholarship period

Outstanding commitment in an international context

Quality of the letter of recommendation

Good academic performance (publications, prizes, duration of studies)
